Nazi Secret Service, Nazi sabotage operations
OKW Amt Ausland/Abwehr, Admiral Wilhelm Canaris, Reinhard Heydrich
The Brandenburgers - Global Mission, Franz Kurowski
WW2 Nazi sabotage in Russia
The Brandenburgers - Global Mission by German author Franz Kurowski is an interesting, well-illustrated, in-depth book about the “under the radar” German clandestine operations unit called The Brandenburgers. This elite unit was involved in wide-ranging, often daring missions not only in western Europe but also Rumania, Russia, Egypt, and Afghanistan.

The Division Brandenburg was a special forces unit trained for sabotage and commando operations behind enemy lines. Created late in 1939, the official name was Bau-Lehr-Bataillon z.b.V. 800 (800th Special Duties Construction Training Battalion), but the outfit was widely known as “The Brandenburgers”. Most men were fluent in foreign languages and were trained in reconnaissance, swimming, hand-to-hand combat, demolitions, marksmanship with both German and Allied weapons, conventional infantry tactics, and other specialized training. They operated as small units behind enemy lines in an effort to disrupt the enemy’s command, communication and logistics.

The Brandenburgers were under the direct command of the OKW Amt Ausland/Abwehr of Admiral Wilhelm Canaris until April 1943. The Division later was absorbed into the Wehrmacht.
The 6-¼ x 9-¼ hardcover book has 304 glossy pages, several maps and over 100 black & white period photographs of well-known Nazi dignitaries, but also officers and men of the Brandenburg Division. Many of the World War II battle photos are gritty! There is even a rare picture of Brandenburgers wearing Soviet uniforms in the field.

Published by J.J. Fedorowicz Publishing in Canada in 1997, and printed in Canada, this 27 year old example of The Brandenburgers - Global Mission is in excellent condition. It looks unread and has no odor.
