The content of “From the Kaiserhof Hotel to the Reichschancellery” is an historical first person account in diary form entries made between 1 January 1932 and 1 May 1933 by Dr. Joseph Goebbels. The book covers the tumultuous historical election period in which Adolf Hitler rose to power as the 23rd Chancellor of Germany from his party headquarters at the luxury hotel Kaiserhof located on the Wilhelmplatz in Berlin’s government district, just across the street from the Reichschancellery.

In his foreword, Goebbels explains he wanted to inform the German people about what led up to the historical turnover of power, the breathtaking tempo, and all the hard, behind-the-scenes work and energy expended that precipitated the successful National Socialist revolution.

The day-by-day entries show the National Socialist road to power, political intrigues leading up to Hitler’s appointment as Reichskanzler, Goebbels’ role (speeches, rallies, articles in his newspaper Der Angriff), the burning of the Reichstag, the boycott of Jewish shops, etc. The book which Goebbels dedicated to the Führer, also contains personal details about family Christmas presents, Goebbels’ wife being hospitalized, the Goebbels children, New Year’s at the Berghof on the Obersalzberg, funerals for murdered SA comrades, etc.
