As most Third Reich book collectors know, Heinrich Hoffmann produced many photo books about Adolf Hitler, but Hitler über Deutschland is one of the very rarest!
Hitler über Deutschland (Hitler above Germany, or Hitler over Germany) is a very rare Nazi book with many Heinrich Hoffmann photos of Adolf Hitler during his 1932 election campaign. Hitler was the first politician in the world to do political campaigning by airplane and it made it possible for him to visit several cities each day and to address tens of thousands of people.
This 7-1/8 x 9-7/8 inch, 88-page softcover book has text by Josef Berchtold (an important early Nazi Party member and head writer of the Völkischer Beobachter at the time) and was published by Heinrich Hoffmann in 1932 for Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger of Munich.
Hitler über Deutschland has THREE 19+ inch photo fold-outs showing 30,000 people during a Hitler rally in the Stuttgarter Festhalle, a sea of 20,000 people at the Berlin Lustgarten, 10,000 people in Chemnitz and Görlitz, 12,000 enthusiasts in Altona, and Hitler addressing 30,000 people in Bad Kreuznach.
The text and photos cover the 2 April 1932 electioneering day when the schedule of Hitler 's Deutschlandflug on the airliner D-1720 was Berlin - Lauenburg - Danzig - Elbing - Köningsberg. On 6 April 1932 his aerial tour covered Köningsberg - Berlin - Würzburg - Nürnberg - Regensburg and after three more hectic days he flew back to Munich on 9 April 1932. Between 16 and 23 April 1932 Hitler flew to every corner of Germany again!
The Hoffmann photos in Hitler über Deutschland show Adolf Hitler with his flight crew and airplane (a Rohrbach Ro VIII Roland rented from Lufthansa), at Riem Airport just outside Munich before take-off with Rudolf Hess and Heinrich Himmler (both in civilian clothes), in front of crowds in Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, Potsdam, Halle a.d. Saale, Kiel, Frankfurt on the Oder, Königsberg in East Prussia and other cities, at Tannenberg Memorial, Ernst Hanfstaengel and other press people on board a Deutschlandflug on the D-1720, flying over the Schlageter Monument and the NSDAP Braunes Haus in Munich, children meeting Hitler and cheering him on, Fliegerhauptmann Hermann Goering, Nazi Party member Prince August Wilhelm and Frankenführer Julius Streicher with Hitler before an election rally, etc.
There is also a picture of Hitler's driver Julius Schreck and a feature page about the 200 horse power Grosse Mercedes of the Führer, used while on the ground (shown above).
This original 92 year old example of Hitler über Deutschland is in good used condition with some wear to the cover which is visible in our picture of it near the top of this USMBOOKS web page. Complete with the three frequently missing photo fold-outs!
