This is an original World War II piece of NSDAP ephemera that was designed to be sent to a local family of a fallen Wehrmacht soldier by ranking members of the local Nazi Party.

The 5-3/4 x 8-1/4 inch, unused four-page dark tan colored card stock folder has striking Nazi eagle and swastika artwork by German graphic artist and SA member Hans Wittig-Friesen on the front panel. Page 3 has text that expresses sympathy and starts with the thoughtful quotation “in these burdensome hours that destiny inflicted on you”.

Below this text there is space for the signatures of the Blockleiter and the Ortsgruppenleiter as well as space for the stamp of the NSDAP Ortsgruppe. On this original example, the spaces were never filled in.

This patented Nazi Party / fallen soldier ephemera was printed by Wittig & Sohn of Annaberg in the Erzgebirge in eastern Germany (on today’s German-Czech border), a printing-publishing company owner by the artist who designed it.
