The folio contains 12 pages of text by poet Herybert Menzel explaining the careful planning and design of the Reichsautobahn to assure that it would blend in with the ever-changing local scenery in Greater Germany. The color photos of finished sections of the Reichsautobahn by Hermann Harz were taken on his long journeys on sunny days, according to Albert Speer.
Das Erlebnis der Reichsautobahn (Experience the Nazi Freeways) is a huge 13 x 18 inch well-made hardcover art book containing 24 beautiful tipped-in full-color pictures of Adolf Hitler’s Reichsautobahn, published by Reichsministerium Speer in 1943. It was published to commemorate the creator of the freeway system, Dr. Ing. Fritz Todt, on the first anniversary of his death with permission of Todt’s family, according to a foreword by Albert Speer which is shown below.

The index explains the location of each photograph - from the first sections finished near Frankfurt am Main to Berlin, the Chiemsee, a gas station near Rosenheim in Bavaria, spectacular freeway bridges across rivers and valleys, rolling hills and alpine scenery, etc. The photos show that the design of freeway matches the local landscape and that the utmost was done to have the design blend into the scenery.

Das Erlebnis der Reichsautobahn is a rare high-quality mid-World War II German book that was not mass produced during the Third Reich. This 81 year old example is in very good used condition with a tight spine and it has no odor.
