LOT OF TWO NAZI “VICTORY IN THE WEST” OKH FILM SOUVENIRS |
Offered for sale on this USMBOOKS web page are two Third Reich photo publications for the film Sieg im Westen or Victory in the West. The big oversized 10-1/2 x 14 inch, very heavily illustrated, 48 page red softcover book Sieg im Westen (Victory in the West) is a souvenir of the 1940 Oberkommando des Heeres (OKH) film by the same name and was available for sale in book stores in Nazi Germany.
The Illustrierter Film-Kurier number 3178 for Sieg im Westen is also part of this lot.
This oversized publication with the striking red cover is splendid. The entire campaign in the west is explained in words and big, clear pictures and maps. Armored, heavy artillery, and storm boat assaults are shown as are the fleeing and surrendering French and British troops. Also shown is the military equipment of the German Command Staff, tanks battling tanks, the unimaginable debacle at Dunkirk, the soldiers of 1940, and the mighty Maginot Line inside and out!
In only a few days time in the early summer of 1940, untested German Army, Luftwaffe and Waffen-SS troops obliterated the highly trained, deeply entrenched troops of the French military defending their own Motherland! Never in European history had a military victory on this scale occurred. The victory Hitler won against massed British and French armed forces made Napoleon’s victories in the previous century look like maneuvers!
From the first shots fired on 10 May, until the French government surrendered 38 days later in humiliation, and German troops marched in victory on the Champs Elysées in Paris, they covered all the action. Later that year the OKH released the movie Sieg im Westen, edited from Propagandakompanie film, and this publication was printed to be sold in theaters as a souvenir of the momentous event.

The second item in this lot is an original 8-5/8 x 11-3/8 inch example of the Illustrierter Film-Kurier for Sieg im Westen. It has eight pages of great illustrations depicting various units of the Wehrmacht in action.

Both historical Third Reich movie souvenirs are in very good, little-used condition and have no odor.
The film and this publication both end with a look at the victory and the French capitulation at Compiègne. German forces had captured the men, equipment and weapons (mostly unused) of over 130 divisions comprising approximately 2 million military prisoners of war including six French Army Commanders and over 29,000 French Officers!
